Fireboy DML Biography: Age, Real Name, Albums and Biggest Songs
Fireboy DML turned soft, romantic Afropop into a global sound. Signed by Olamide to YBNL, he gave us “Jealous”, “Vibration” and the worldwide hit “Peru”, which reached new heights with an Ed Sheeran remix.
Fireboy grew up in Abeokuta and Lagos and sang in church as a boy. While studying English at OAU he started writing songs seriously, and his demos caught the attention of Olamide, who signed him to YBNL in 2018.
Breakthrough
“Jealous” and “What If I Say” made him a star in 2019, and his debut album Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps showed a gentle, melodic style that stood out from street-pop. Apollo followed in 2020 with “Eli” and “New York City Girl”.
“Peru” and global fame
“Peru” (2021) became one of the biggest Afrobeats songs ever. A remix with Ed Sheeran took it into the UK top 10 and around the world, and Fireboy performed at major stages and award shows abroad.
