“Veteran sports journalist dies in Abuja after second wife disappears with money raised for his treatment” - Journalist, Adeolu Johnson shares story

A veteran sports journalist identified as Adeolu Johnson, has died in Abuja after his second wife allegedly disappeared with money raised for his treatment.

A football talent scout and sports writer, Abiola Shodiya, disclosed this via X on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. 

According to Shodiya, late Johnson's colleagues came together to raise the money. 

“An abuja based veteran sports journalist became critically ill. Colleagues came together to raise funds for him, even using contacts within the sector to raise money,” he wrote. 

"First tranche of money was sent to him for hospital bills and medications.

"Second tranche which was a heavier bag was sent and his second wife who had access to his account ran away with the money.

“The man just died. May his soul rest in peace.”
