Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has written a belated birthday message to her colleague, Kunle Afod.
Kemi Filani reported a day ago that the actor had turned 53.
In a belated note, Toriola described him as a distinguished actor and rained prayers on him.
“Happy birthday to a distinguished icon.
Wishing you a beautiful new chapter filled with grace, good health, fulfilment, and greater accomplishments. May the years ahead bring you lasting joy, peace, and countless reasons to be grateful, sir.
Cheers to many more years of excellence and celebration”.
This birthday message is coming a few days after she threw shot at Kunle’s estranged wife, Desola Afod, at her son’s birthday party.
Toriola was seen on the dance floor where she took a dig at Desola, saying, “Awon Tieta”, meaning those in Theatre.
Kemi Filani reported that Desola, in a video she shared online, had called out actors and actresses for constantly disrespecting her. She noted that she is older than most of them and, as such, shouldn’t be addressed by her first name.
In response, Bimbo Success told her to shut up, saying people in the industry were only staying quiet out of respect for her husband. She said they’re giving Desola the same respect they give to Afod, who gave her the fame she enjoys today.
Joining Bimbo Success, Wumi Toriola called out Desola, telling her to name those who disrespected her rather than disrespecting the industry. She urged her to start bearing her father’s name if her ex’s name was giving her problems.
Other Nollywood actors, including Arike Akinyanju, Nkechi Blessing, Yetunde Bakare, Seyi Edun, Yetunde Barnabas, and Tosin Olaniyan, took to Wumi Toriola’s comment section to support her point.
Awele Odita sent a strict but warm warning to Desola Afod, urging her to personally address those who disrespected her. She told her outright not to insult the industry because some of the actresses she might be referring to are much older than her.
Bowing to pressure, she retracted her statement and thanked Afeez Owo for reaching out. To those who did her dirty, she said she had moved on, but one thing remains unchanged: she is still Desola Afod, celebrity wife till the end of time.
In another post, she apologised to every practitioner in the movie industry for her choice of words, acknowledging that she shouldn’t have generalised and taking full responsibility.
It is no longer news that Kunle Afod and Desola have parted ways. The couple’s separation and the cause of the breakup remain unknown to the public, as they’re keeping quiet about it, likely out of respect for their kids.
