Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has slammed society for constantly pressuring couples to have elaborate weddings.

In a video she shared online, she warned that pressure to have elaborate weddings creates mental and emotional stress on couples and their new marriages.

She questioned why some couples who have enjoyed happy relationships for years begin to feel scared and uncertain after getting married.

Kadiri recommended simpler weddings like having a low-key traditional wedding, court registration with about 30 guests, and a quiet family prayer instead of grand events.

She also spoke about parental pressure and pressure from extended family members, mostly on firstborn children. She noted how firstborns are pressured to achieve financial success and support their families.

Using herself as an example, she urges couples to prioritise building a solid foundation over impressing people and bowing to societal pressure.

Similarly, Yul Edochie shared valuable advice for couples planning to get married. He emphasised the importance of staying within one’s financial means and not succumbing to societal pressure around wedding expenses.

When the news of American reality star Porsha Williams’s crashed marriage made rounds, a year after her elaborate wedding, Yul Edochie had admonished couples planning a big wedding to go ahead and do what makes them happy and not allow anyone to decide how they spend their money.

In another post, Yul had advised ladies desperate to get married. He urged them to buy a ring and propose to their man if they were waiting for him to do so, and he was wasting time. The actor stated there was nothing wrong with it as he avowed that it doesn’t matter who says the words.

In other news, Ruth Kadiri, raised alarm about the circulation of fake products in Nigeria. She said the circulation of fake products isn’t just a business problem, but a threat to human life. She urged parents and guardians to check expiry dates and NAFDAC numbers before buying products.

The movie star addressed death reports about her, making it known that she was alive, safe and wasn’t involved in an accident. She expressed sadness at the extent to which people go to hurt and wish death on another, noting that she stays in her lane and urged them to leave her alone.

Months ago, Kadiri wrote an open letter to the President, urging him to either do something about the alarming rate of death in the country or give people the go-ahead to protect their lives and property. Kadiri noted that there is too much death in the country and that being a Nigerian isn’t safe anymore.

The award-winning actress praised her senior colleague, Uche Jombo, calling her her mother and saying she taught her to be there for others. She recounted how Jombo helped settle a misunderstanding between her and another colleague.
