Stay safe

Codes and menus change from time to time. If a code doesn’t work, check your bank’s app or call its customer care line. Never tell anyone your PIN, OTP or the last digits of your card — your bank will never ask.

📲 How to start using USSD banking

  1. Use the phone number linked to your accountUSSD only works from the SIM registered with your bank.
  2. Dial your bank’s codeFor example *737# for GTBank. Follow the menu to register.
  3. Enter your card or account detailsMost banks ask for the last digits of your debit card or your account number to confirm it’s you.
  4. Create a 4-digit PINChoose something that is not your birthday or 1234. Never share it.
  5. Start transactingYour network may charge a small fee (often around ₦6.98 per session) on your airtime.

🚨 Lost your phone? Block USSD fast

Many banks have an emergency code to stop USSD on your account from any phone — for example GTBank *737*51*74#, First Bank *894*911#, Access *901*911#, and Zenith *966*911#. Then call your bank and block your SIM with your network.

Frequently asked questions

What is GTBank’s bank code?

GTBank’s CBN bank code is 058 and its USSD code is *737#.

What is the bank code for OPay?

OPay’s NIP code is 999992. PalmPay is 999991, Moniepoint is 50515 and Kuda is 50211.

Is a bank code the same as a sort code?

Not exactly. The bank code (e.g. 058) identifies the bank; a sort code is longer and identifies a specific branch. Most transfers today only need the bank and account number.

Why does USSD charge me?

Mobile networks charge a small fee per USSD session, deducted from your airtime or bank account. It is not the bank stealing your money.
